About Us

The Welsh Refugee Council is the lead voluntary sector agency working with refugees and asylum seekers in Wales. Our vision is to empower refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives.

We do this through:

  • providing direct advice and information to asylum seekers and refugees through our team of caseworkers based in our offices in the four dispersal areas
  • a range of specialist support services in key areas including access to housing, health care and training, employment and volunteering as well as building the capacity of Refugee Community Organisations and strengthening links between local communities and refugee communities
  • proactively advocating for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Established in 1990, the organisation has expanded rapidly and now operates across Wales in four offices in Cardiff (head office), Newport, Swansea and Wrexham. We are a membership organisation and are governed by a Board of Trustees, which includes clear representation from refugees as well as other committed individuals who bring a range of skills and expertise.
